We had a bitchin time in LA. Chatted with a shark hunter, a sweet/crazy guy playing 17 instrutments at the same time, the woman who played Borat's hooker-buddy, the exec. proudcer of the L Word, a hunky personal trainer/waiter. Saw the sights: HOLLYWOOD sign (hiked), Hollywood Blvd., Kat VonD's LA INK (got another tatt), the Pacific and played on the beach and pier. Oh ya, the trip was to go to the ELLEN show. That was cool too.
The first night we found some beach toys and tried to get them in all the picts. They're there if you look hard!
We finally got some snow in Arkansas! It was just for a few hours but it made everything beautiful and it was fun to hike in.
I had an incredible encounter with an owl yesterday. I was on my beach and my dogs took off away from the water and into the woods (strange for them). They encountered an owl that couldn't fly. I called a wildlife expert and she said it was probably hit by a car, they take it head-on, but it has a good chance of comming out of this stuper. While it was recovering, I got some great shots. It is a Barred Owl. It never hooted at me but you can always recognize one because its hoot sounds like "WHO COOKS FOR YOU?" My dogs were so good around it and eventually the owl got its bearings back and took off to higher ground and to another part of the lake.
It was a great trukey break for my family and me. We added a new addition on November 17th. A niece for me, Bergen Lane. She's perfect and the cutest little sister to Claire, 5, and twins, 2, Eli and Ian! Pictures later!
How time flies when you're in school. Actually time just gets away from you. Pat, its always great hearing, seeing, reading what you're up to. Here's a bit of what I've been able to squeeze in...
A buddy of mine is building a chopper with his dad.
Gathering really cool driftwood from around the cliffs at Beaver Lake. This sure was an adventure on a windy day with about an extra (and awkward) 30 pounds of wood in our kayaks!
The tarantulas are on the move in my part of the country! Yikes! This kid at school found this one just outside his house. Friendly thing. He let it go up in our woods behind the school. Hope it likes it there... and stays!
I actually got to read four books during my little stint in Canada. What worlds we can enter!!
The Island Queen amazed us all. Touring a bit of the 30,000 Islands in Georgian Bay was incredible. The cruise ship passed through effortlessly in narrows I would have a hard time navigating a kayak!
We all thought the Captain (Who was about 20 years old) had a super high tech navigation system in front of him telling him exactly where we were. Hanging out, we got to enter the Captain's Cabin. All we saw was an oversized compass. You know, a larger version of the floating ball your grandparents adheared to their car's dash.
Being back from Canada means summer is over. Ugh, I got that out of the way but I have to go to school tomorrow. The trip was incredible. Kayaking every day, hiking, swimming, fishing, playing cards and reading books. Wonderful. Stopping in Niagara Falls on the way home was great. I had my dogs and walking around found a great hiking trail. The mist was heavy that day and made for a muddy hike, but hooda thought such a trail was hidden.
The trip up took us 24 hours. Then it was unloading everything from the truck and onto the boat to get to the cottage. It's actualy on the point of a penninsula with no neighbors so the dogs had the run of the place. I just can't keep Jonquil from growing. She and Q swam everyday and rode in the kayak for the longer trips. We found some great cliffs to climb and found the easy way down, jump.
It is good to be back. It will again, make next summer that much sweeter.
How old were you when you had your very first boyfriend/girlfriend? Do you still know them now?
Submitted by KIM.
I had a boyfriend when I was 12. His name was Lance and I remember him at the rollerskating rink and hangin out in a booth next to the video games. Friends were around and arm wrestling began. I was in deep competition but my next thought was not to embarrass this guy I like. So I let him win. THAT was my first and last boyfriend. :-) I don't know him anymore.
